Legal Entity Identifier (LEI) – Briefing ESMA – 9 Octobre 2017

The Legal Entity Identifier (LEI) is a 20-digit, alpha-numeric code that enables clear and unique identification of legal entities participating in financial transactions.1 LEIs, like other identifiers, are needed by firms to fulfil their reporting obligations under financial regulations and directives. LEIs are also key for matching and aggregating market data, both for transparency and regulatory purposes (ESMA70-145-238). (ESMA, format Acrobat, 9 octobre 2017, 4p.).
